Comparing Storage Carousel Solutions: Horizontal And Vertical Carousels
Space in any manufacturing facility is something that management is always reallocating in order to maximize the profitability of its real estate. Use of this space is critical. What is interesting is that most people look at their property from “left-to-right” and they never really stop and “look up.” The empty air space above all of that capital equipment is space you are paying taxes on, heating, lighting, etc. Why not use it?
Three typical ways to use all that empty space include: 1) Purchase a mezzanine and double your floor space 2) install a vertical carousel for storage or buffering of parts and 3) use conventional construction methods to add another floor.

There are two basic types of storage carousels, vertical or horizontal. A vertical carousel simply brings product “up and down, ” similar to an amusement park Ferris wheel. A horizontal storage carousel brings product horizontally across the floor, such as the conveyor seen at a dry cleaner.
