Different Types of Roofing

Roof is a major part of the house or any building taken in this world. No building is considered a complete building unless and until it has a proper roof. The roof is the covering on the uppermost part of the building and the main aim of the roof is to provide shelter to those who are living under it. Roofing basically is the term used to define the material or the roof style. There are various types of roofing or roof styles that are present in the market. Each of these styles has their own advantages and disadvantages and can only be used for a specific area. For example flat roofing would not do well in places where it snows heavily while on the other hand the Gable type roofing would be quite an appropriate type of roof for this kind of area. This article mentions some of the types of roofing.
Firstly, there is gable roofing in which the roof is made of two different surfaces which are placed back to back at an angle, thus forming a triangular roof. There are further subcategories of Gable roofing as well, they are side gable roof, front gable roof, cross gabled roof and Dutch gable roof. Among these four the side gable roof is the most popular one due to its cheapness and ease of installation. Secondly there is shed type roof style in which is made up of singular roof sliding down at an angle over the building. This kind of roofing is the easiest and cheapest to build, however, this kind of roofing is only used for shed or warehouses or garage. Rarely, this kind of roofing is used to cover a home.
Thirdly there is Bonnet or Kicked Eaves Type of roof style. This style is one of the least common and popular roof style, however it can also be said to be a modified roof style. This type of roofing is popular in French architecture. This roofing has two slopes on the four side of the roof and the upper slope is steeper than the bottom slope. It is a little hard to imagine its structure this way, so seeing an image of this kind of roofing helps a lot. Fourthly, there is flat roof, which is one of the mostly used roofs in the low lands. This roof is slightly sloped so that the water runs of the roof and doesn’t stay at the top as it can cause problems in the long run. The initial cost of build of this roofing is quite cheaper however it has to be maintained regularly to prevent its collapse.
Fifthly, there is Gambrel type roof style, which comprises of two different slopes on each side of its two symmetrical slides. This roof was quite popular in the 18th century and today it can only be seen atop a barn or some other warehouse. Sixthly there is saltbox roofing which is nearly similar to the gable roofing, however, it is cheaper and designed for more congested areas.
Seventhly, there is hip (hipped) roofing, in which all the walls of the roof slide down to meet the wall of the building. Eighthly, there is Mansard roofing and was popular in 1600s, but is still in fashion today.
