Roller Skates: Ridel R3′s ???? Will They Last?
How durable are quad skate plates made of nylon as compared to aluminum plates?
I have owned aluminum plates which are the parts that the wheels mount to and then the plates attach to the bottom of the shoe. And, I’m in the market for new skates now. So many are made with nylon plates, but will they last and can they support a person over 200 pounds? I can’t seem to find answers from someone with real experience.
Specifically, I am considering a pair of Ridel R3′s.
Anyone have skates with nylon plates? Are you a tall guy like me about 220 pounds? Have they held up, or did you have to get aluminum plates / new skates?

Can they support a person who weighs 220 pounds? Absolutely. The nylon plate will flex, but as to how much flex is good or bad varies from person to person. Aluminum and plastic/nylon plates will both flex and in some cases that actually helps a skater or it could cause the skater to loose momentum(depending on what sport you’re using the skates for). A nylon plate used on a speed skate or derby skate will more than likely crack and warp after extended use. So, it comes down to how often you skate & what type of skating you will do to see if the PowerDyne Nylon plate that comes on the R3 will be OK for you.
