Cast Iron, Solid Brass and Bronze Registers and Grills – Finding Them At An Affordable Price
Popularized in the late 1890′s and early 1900′s, cast iron grilles and register covers came in many shapes, sizes and colors. These heavy duty cast Iron vent covers and grilles were stylish and functional. Made completely of iron, they were made to stand the test of time – never denting or collapsing under pressure as most modern light brass covers often do. Characterized by Victorian style swirls and precise geometric patterns, the vent covers soon became objects of art and were often stolen or sold at auction.
What is the difference between a register and a grill? A register comes with directional louvers while a grill does not. Also, these can come drilled or plain. Drilled grills or registers have holes for mounting screws and can be secured to a wall or ceiling - and they provided extra security when screwed into a floor. Registers with Louvers often add quite a bit to the price and are seldom needed – so consider the use of a grill instead of a louvered register and it will save you money – saving upwards of 55% off.
