Nigeria’s EUROBOND expected to yeild 7%
Jan 19 (Easykobo.com) - Nigeria expects to set a benchmark for African foreign currency bonds by setting a higher yield that other Africa country international bonds. UK based Standard Chartered Bank expects Nigeria’s Eurobond to yield 7% and New York based JP Morgan expects the yield to be in the range of 6.9-7.7%.
Gabon’s 2017 foreign bond is currently yielding 5.2% while Ghana’s 2017 foreign bond is yielding approximately 6.17%. Nigeria has a better credit rating than both nations at B+ and it is much bigger economy than Gabon and Ghana. However Nigeria’s CSL Stockbrokers expected the bond to yield 6%.
Nigeria’s Finance Minister Olosegun Aganga has already said that the aim is set a benchmark in the global market for Nigeria’s bonds than to raise funds. The amount being raised is $500 million, a relatively small sum for US and Europe’s investment banks. Last month, Citigroup CEO Mr. Vikram Pandit while on a visit to Nigeria said that he expected the bond to be snapped up in very little time. Citigroup and Deutsche Bank are the book runners for the 10 year bond.
The road show will continue on Thursday and the bond will be issued on Friday according to Abraham Nwanko, CEO of Nigeria’s Debt Management Office(DMO). The bond will therefore yield somewhere between 6 and 7.7% which is much higher than most european countries. This bond may bring about a change in mood towards Africa as a whole and lead to more investments into the continent from big American and European bonds.
