Use A Professional Plasterer And Not Just A Bag Of Filler
The plasterer, appropriately enough, works with plaster during construction or remodeling of a house or business. They apply and work with plaster on interior and exterior walls, as well as sometimes with plaster decorative elements such as trim and molding.
Plaster has been part of construction in both its practical form and decorative form for thousands of years and working with it a very old trade. It is a soft material, even when dry, unlike cement and concrete and therefore is not used for load bearing aspects. It provides an additional surface and some extra strength and reinforcement on walls to be painted and stained and covered.
The plasterer will often be a sort of “finishing” job, where they will fill in cracks and seems and perhaps even fill in large gaps and holes. Plaster comes in a dry powder form and, mixed with water, becomes a liquid. The person using it can fill in small cracks, or breaks on surfaces; gaps in joints can be filled in; damage which may have occurred, to drywall per se, can be repaired. The plaster when hardened can be sanded down to form a smooth surface in plain with the surface it has been applied to. If a hole is punched in drywall, the plasterer can fill the whole with plaster, sand it down to a needed smoothness, and repeat this process until the hole is no longer available.
Plaster, because of its soft makeup, is used often in decorative trim and moldings and the gifted and extra skilled plasterer may play a larger role in this application. They may be able to work with and manipulate the plaster into various shapes and designs and even figures to produce a desired result. A gifted plasterer can create this solely or simply alter a preexisting form by building and layering plaster or sanding it and cutting it.
The work can be further enhanced and customized by adding different elements to the plaster, such as hairs for extra strength. This can help where plaster is exposed to outside elements. Different ratios of dry to wet can help produce different surfaces that can be manipulated for design and function and this gives the tradesperson freedom to create unique finishes.
The plasterer, like many trades people, deal with an aspect of construction that not only has technical and building merit and worth, but also a large decorative and artistic aspect. They will be able to not only fill in gaps and cracks and holes for extra reinforcement and repair and maintenance. But they will also be able to apply an artistic touch to a home in often very subtle ways, such as moldings and trim and other decorative touches.
