Genesis and evolution of money

The genesis of money usually associated with a lot of stories and some people confuse the issue still more money to confuse coinage. The monetary system is a relatively contemporary of money that was probably started by the Lydians in Asia Minor around the 7th century BC On the other hand, is not yet known whether these first coins were actually used as money, as in modern times. Therefore, before making an attempt to determine the earliest use of money is essential to identify what really means money.

Looking back at history, we find that regardless of any rational definition of money, its origin is almost as old as human civilization. Although this article is not the place to delve into the details of the history of money , which can broadly be divided into nine phases: Egypt, Mesopotamia and Greece, the Far East and China, Southeast Asia and India, the Islamic countries, the Roman world, Africa and Oceania, medieval Europe, the Middle Modern and The Modern Age. Besides this classification of the history of money, here a brief account of the evolution of money from pre-historic days to modern times, in a few easy steps.

Influences

Indeed, several factors such as the rise and fall of the Roman Empire, the emergence of an Islamic world, the settlement of new colonies in distant continents, the Industrial Revolution in Britain, the French Revolution, the War of the Hundred Years between England and France, the War of Independence, the two world wars, the fall of communism and the disintegration of the former Soviet Union had their individual influences on the evolution of money. Add to this the capitalist point of view propagated by the economist Adam Smith and the fight against the viewpoint of a socialist championed by Karl Marx and Engels, Fredric. In fact, the Industrial Revolution had made money in a ubiquitous part of society that was condemned by Marx and Engels.

Barter System

The barter system is known to be the most primitive of the transaction as the beginning people did not have any money to purchase products or services. The barter system, which still exists in some communities around the world, which denotes the exchange of personal property value products or services desired. Cattle were the most common unit of exchange of 9000 BC to 6000 BC and later farming produce also occurred in their area of competence. However, from 1200 BC, the inhabitants of China and the regions of Southeast Asia, including India, which is used cowries as a medium of exchange. The use of shells cowrie became widespread in Africa and won in many parts of the world until the mid 20th century.

Money metal

The first form of coins made its appearance in China in the late Stone Age 1,000 BC to the production of false cowrie shells. Apart from these, the tools such as knives and swords made of metals used in ancient China can also be seen as early forms of metallic money. Chinese coins were made of base metals and were normally drilled in the center so they could be threaded on a string. In fact, these early Chinese coins of metal served as a prototype for the minting of coins design today.

The silver coins made their first appearance sometime around 500 BC in the form of bullion and silver coins, and soon slowly evolved into its current manifestation. They were the first coins of precious metals and took prints of gods and emperors who issued them to demonstrate their value as currency. It is believed that the silver coins made their first appearance in Lydia, or Turkey and techniques are used repeatedly until they were overcome by the Persians, the Greek empire, Macedonian and Roman. Unlike the coins produced by the Chinese, these coins were made of precious and semiprecious metals like gold, silver and bronze and leads to a substantial inherent value.

Leather and fabric money

The Chinese were also the first to introduce leather coin in 118 BC, which many regard as the forerunner of paper money. Use white deerskin square foot pieces that were painted around the edges of the various operations. In the other hand, the Lele tribe in Belgium Congo in Africa pioneered the use of money fabric for transactions within their community.

Paper money

According to records, the first paper money was used in China between the ages 9 and 15 Shortly after the introduction of paper money, the region experienced a severe inflation for both the State and some individual authorities began issuing paper money in large scale. Over time, paper money disappeared from China in 1455 and re-appeared back several centuries later in Europe. Most states have set the value of paper currency and gold standard whenever this balance was disturbed due to over-issuance of money, not only led to a depreciation of the currency, but also strong inflation.

Gold Standard and depression

For a long time, the value of currencies was associated with the value of the metal was made. However, with the advent of paper money, this system was abolished in many states and the currency for the regular use of transactions, while the precious metal as gold is held as strategic reserve. Deviating from this system in 1816, England gold as a benchmark for the value of the currency. In simple words, it denotes that the value of a currency was linked to the specific value of ounces of gold. Several years later, the United States also adopted the gold standard in 1900. However, when the Great Depression hit the economies of states around the world in the 1930's, U.S. States launched a global movement to seek the gold standard to an end. Incidentally, while some countries still peg their currency to gold, even today, most of the other governments and monetary organization trying to be responsible for inflation.

Money modern

Half of the 20th century witnessed the globalization and liberalization of the economy, promoting free trade. The advance of science and technology in the modern era has established a system whereby all important transactions can be performed without the actual use of physical money. While the introduction debit cards and credit have already introduced electronic money is also exchanged via the Internet, the role of banks in granting advances or loans to increase the company has redefined the nature and role of money in society.
