Can I use a 20 amp outdoor GFI with a 15 amp breaker?
Just wondering. I have new wiring to an outside GFI outlet. I have a 20 amp GFI. Will it just make the 15 amp breaker trip first?
Makes no sense, the breaker will still trip above the 15, so you’ll never see the CFI trip at 20.
The concept is to have the CFI trip first, since it is close to a water source. The breaker protects the entire line, the CFI protects the device connected to that outlet, by the time the device would trip the outlet the line breaker had already tripped.
Another words, this line will operate just as it did without the CFI in it. You’ll never reach “Trip Point” for the CFI.
